Microsoft
recommend a fresh install of Windows 7 on an existing PC running a previous
version of Windows however it is practical to perform an upgrade to some
windows versions whilst retaining all existing programs and settings.
Currently Running Windows Vista
?
If you have Windows Vista, you can purchase
Windows 7 Upgrade versions.
You can do a clean install (back up your files, clean install, and reinstall
your applications) or an in-place upgrade (Windows 7 installs over Windows
Vista).
Currently Running a version of XP?
Upgrade to Windows 7 without re-installing all
your programs
If you have Windows XP, you can purchase
Windows 7 Upgrade versions but
normally you must back up your files, perform a clean install, and then reinstall your
applications.
